Who the heck is Matt?

I'm so jealous of everywhere this guy must have been & everything that he must have experienced along the way! Especially right about now when I am at about two days without even stepping foot outside my front door! I am so grateful for indoor plumbing & quality tissue right about now.

Ok, back to my nap time & more hokey lifetime movies.

RX: Laughter

It is official, I have the Carolina Crud.

My head is pounding & I just want to curl up & pass out til this is all out of my system. Yuck.

Still I believe that in addition to liquids, rest & vitamins, laughter is the best medicine. Oh & everyone actually WASHING THERE HANDS OFTEN! I highly advise it! The running statistic is that one in five people don't wash their hands when they go to the bathroom! Think about that one for a moment.... ew..

So today the site is Laughter.com, where this made me smile (I would have laughed but it hurts in my chest & I'm too busy coughing):

A man goes into a pet shop to buy a parrot. The shop owner points to three identical birds and says: "The parrot to your left costs $500." The man asks,"Why does the parrot costs so much?" The owner says,"Well, it knows how to use a computer. He can diagnose system bugs." The customer asks about the next parrot and is told,"That one costs $1000 because it can do everything the other parrot can do plus it knows how to configure and use UNIX." Naturally, the increasingly startled man asks about the third parrot and is told, "That one costs $2000." Needless to say, this begs the question, "What can IT do?" The owner shrugs and replies, "To be honest I've never seen it do a thing, but the other two call him Boss!"

ink think

So I have a friend who has decided to get a tattoo for her birthday & wanted input on what to get this year. I have thought here & there over the years about what I would get if I wasn't afraid of needles & if I thought I could decided on something that wouldn't get old over time. Who wants one that they end up regretting?

Anyway lead me to thinking what do tattoos really mean. Each as a special meaning to the person who gets it, but overall what does each image mean. Like a dream dictionary for ink.

Well - I found one! Everything is on the web!

Puzzling

With so many things in life that seem to be so hard to figure out, its nice to take a break & solve a few things. A meditative ego boost.

So when is the last time you actually took time to do a puzzle? The jigsaw, picture type?

I have so many memories of a separate table that was out at my grandma's house for holidays or anytime she knew that we were all coming.

It was a great place to have random conversations with whoever. Funny what you learn & confess while looking to fit little chunks of cardboard together to make a copy of the image on the box. All knowing that afterward all you will have left are the memories as it crumbles back into the box.

I wish I had room in my house to set up a puzzle table. Or even one at work in the break room...although that would lead to some really long breaks I'm sure!

Til then, I have
the online version to keep me occupied.

*& WE ALWAYS KNEW WHICH AUNT SNEAKED THE LAST PIECE AWAY SO SHE COULD BE THE ONE TO PUT THE "FINAL" PIECE IN! ;)

Just the facts please.

Remember back in school all the books they would have on the yearly reading list. And how at times life just got in the way of making it through all the pages of War & Peace or whatever epic novel that the professor / teacher thought you had the time & interest in reading? What did we always seem to turn to? CLIFF NOTES!

Of course the professor had access to them as well, so they could write the test to quiz you on everything else in the book that was not cover in the Cliff Notes, but we still thought we could get by at times. At least they gave us enough of an idea to be able to talk about the main plot points of the subject!

Now there is an online free version, Sparknotes.

Interesting reading & a good refresher on topics for those of us who are now out of school. And for anyone in school, just be careful. They have just as easy access as you do & of course the only one you are really cheating is yourself.... but from a gal in the "real world", you will never be asked to quote The Secret Life of Walter Mitty! ;)

POTUS

It is Presidents Day!

Why am I so happy about this? Well because it means my history / political buff other half has the day off work! While it may also mean a day of random facts & lectures on his theories behind certain presidential terms, it means time with him. All in all I adore his zest for learning & he has inspired me to learn more.

Like did you know that "George Washington (1789-1797), Thomas Jefferson (1801-09), and John Adams (1797-1801) were all avid collectors and players of marbles." You would if you checked out today's site, Who Knew? Presidential Trivia.

POTUS, President of the United States, is a term I have learned recently along with many, many other random things. Like all Aquarian presidents have died in office, except Reagan - who was almost killed! So anyone else have any random facts about our presidents? The wackier the better!

Reading is FUNdamental

So I have been using a book swap site for a while now. It seemed risky at first after hearing some horror stories about other swapping sites out there so I have been leery of posting anything until I knew how I personally felt about it.

Well the verdict is in. I LOVE IT!

Paperbackswap.com allows you to join & post any books that you are comfortable getting rid of. Other members can view them & contact you if they would like your book. When they request it, you mail it out & after they confirm that they have received it, you get a credit. The credit allows you to request a book from another member, where they pay to send you the book.

You can read practically any book you want for the cost of shipping out your book. All the books are in great condition (there are rules like no missing pages, no water damage, etc.). You can even chose to only see paperbacks if you want. Otherwise you can browse various books that may be paperback, hard back or even CD/cassette audio books.

They have another branch that allows you to swap music CDs & movies as well.

I have swapped quite a few books there, none of which I have completely read yet, but I have plenty to read when I am ready!

I only had one experience where it seemed that the book wasn't
coming. Not sure if it was lost in the mail or if the person didn't send it when they said they did (you have a certain time frame to respond by). In the end I ended up getting the book as requested, so no harm. If I hadn't then I would have gotten a credit returned.

In these times where money is in short supply & it makes no sense to just have books laying around unread, this site is a blessing.

Its cheaper than buying books in a store. Usually a paperback cost under $3 to mail! They make it easy by giving you a label to print out with the addresses & even postage if you choose already on it! You just print the label & wrap the book in it making sure not to get any tape touching the a
ctual book. You have the option of depositing money in to an account to pay for postage. The you don't even have to go to the post office, just place it in your mail box to send it off.

Also isn't it better to reread books rather than having one printed for each of us on this planet? The trees will su
rely appreciate it. Share the knowledge & gain some more.

So I advise you to check out Paperbackswap.com. Get rid of those dust collectors & bring in some fresh information for you to devour on a rainy day. They have all types of books, non-fiction & fiction, so explore away. More books are added daily. Can you add yours? I might want them ;)

& parents... they even have kids books! You can get rid of the ones they no longer read & restock their shelves with new ones for much less cost that visiting the book store.

For those who just don't care anymore, Despair, Inc.

So my job sucks. Actually my job is good, my coworkers are GREAT, its my boss who ruins the place....literally. Since I'm not one for going down with a sinking ship, I really want to just jump ship before I am made to walk the plank! For this reason I will refrain from purchasing anything from today's site. Still I really am laughing my bum off at the potential found here. So enjoy, dream & then make life better. If you don't, no one is going to do it for you! :)

Make me smile

Lately things have not gone as I would have liked. Granted things could be a LOT worse. I am grateful that they aren't as back as they could be, but still. Life is not making me a happy lady lately!

For moments like these there is a site. And that site shows you Things To Be Happy About. Because occasionally we all need the reminder.

Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?

I'm a child of the 80s & pretty proud to be. What other decade could (or would) give us Gremlins, Cabbage Patch & Garbage Pail kids, jelly shoes & bracelets, Punky Brewster & all that other wacky lovable stuff. Thinking back to all the stuff of the 80s gives me the warm fuzzies!

However in reality, we have come a long way from Nintendo Super Power cereal & where's the beef commercials! If you feel like taking a walking to the past ( which I warn you can be hazardous to those good memories at times - I TRIED to watch a My Little Pony DVD not to long ago & was sadly disappointed!), check out RetroJunk! It is chocked full of plenty of the best commercials, movie trailers, TV show intros & just general fun stuff from the 70s, 80s & 90s.Can you name them all? At least recognize them?

and where are you from?

Ever wonder how many others have your last name? Ever wonder where it comes from & where the most people are with the same last name?

Check out World Name Profiler.

It shows a map of where everyone is.

It is interesting. I knew my last name was Celtic, but I has no idea that there were groups of us in New Zealand & South Africa! Course most of us are in the US now...still some in Ireland & even Canada.

Learn something new everyday!

Walkers Unite!

So this site is a bit more productive than yesterdays. Maybe it will balance out.

One thing that I do religiously is put on my pedometer. Its in an effort to encourage me to move more & be hea
lthier, but typically I am a lazy gal. This is something I want to change & I know I can because in the past I have logged in some pretty high numbers step-wise.

Walker Tracker is a site that can help to encourage us pedometer
addicts to move more by providing support & inspiration from other pedometer users.

You can set your own goal & it will show your progress at you work towards that goal. I set mine at 5,000 per day, hopefully I can increase this soon but I am being realistic here.

I just joined today, but I look forward to the encouragement & hoping that it will help me find a way to get my motivation back. At this point I just don't feel like moving. My energy goes up the more I walk, but I just don't seem to care.

So go get a pedometer & get healthy.

If you do join, feel free to contact me & become my friend on there. I'm listed at MoonGoddess.

Speedy Bubbles, or how I spent StuperBowl Sunday

argh. Between this & the puppy bowl anyway today has flown by. I decided I don't care who wins the super bowl this year. My team (THE PANTHERS) SHOULD be in Tampa playing today, but they aren't so blast it all. I love Tampa as a city, but I just really can't watch the game this year.

Without further nonsense, I have to start with a bit of a warning:

Wendy - disregard this post. The link is extremely ADDICTIVE!

Everyone else, enjoy!

Ok ready to blow a few days on the internet?

Go.... SPEEDY BUBBLES!

Yes I am looking for a support group for this game. I have been playing it for about a year now & it just doesn't lose its appeal.
