here kitty, kitty

OK so I ADORE Halloween. and I ADORE my pets. Somehow the two just don't tend to mess very well. I have been lucky enough to have two dogs that seemed to get a kick out of putting on a costume once in a while, but then again I have NEVER been able to get them to wear anything on their heads. Cats, well the two I had growing up let me know under no uncertain terms exactly what they thought of me dressing them into anything festive. I got the scratches to make sure the point it home.

So when I came across today's site & almost spit out my morning tea! Kitty Wigs! too funny & again I am kinda glad I'm not a cat owner. I love 'em, but I might be tempted to try again for dressing up kitty! :)

Cinco de Mayohave another?

So not really in a festive mood myself, especially for a holiday that doesn't seem to be about much other than drinking tequila drinks or mexican beer & packing every mexican restaurant slam full.

However, a twitter from Cake Wrecks, did make me smile & wish I had a cup cake!

Oh there are more! More styles to bring the dulce feista to your boca!

Maybe I will treat myself some time soon.

Your place or Mine? Wait its OURS!

Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day.

Which means today's site is all about things you can do to help the environment.

Feel like telling me ideas on how you can help do your/our part?

Currently I use a reusable metal water bottle, a canvas lunch bag, reusable bags (but admit I do take some plastic & reuse them in cleaning up the bird cages & as bathroom trash can liners). I have now switched ALL lights in the house to CFL bulbs & use rechargeable batteries - there are still some old ones we are using up but any new ones are rechargeable! The out door path lights are solar powered & half don't work at night. I use any water that the birds, dog or I don't drink to water the plants. We got a French press coffee maker instead of an electric one this year. I recycle as much as I can in regards to house hold waste.

I feel like I am forgetting something. For me its more than just wearing the Its Easy Being Green Kermit Tee & carrying the Target Red Tote bag, its doing what we can to help conserve energy & clean up this place. Where else are we going to live? :)

Any other ideas?

Eggsellent

So I'm enjoying a relaxing day & just thinking how I think this is one of the rare years where I didn't dye any Easter eggs with the family. So no technicolored egg salad later!

Still I miss the fun of decorating the eggs.

Which lead me to today's site, with all the eggs you can handle! & some people who have WAY more time on their hands, & a steadier hand, than I do!

doom doom doom cha cha cha doom doom doom cha cha cha

Look out! Its here...

FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH! AHHHHH!

yeah it happened last month. believe it or not it is going to happen again this year.. 3 times in one year! (November has another Friday the 13th!) Basically any month that begins on a Sunday is going to bring us this day of "doom".

Really seems like the one to worry about comes in 2029 when The asteroid 2004 MN4 will make its close encounter on Friday, April 13, 2029!

So are you
Paraskevidekatriaphobic? Do you have the irrational fear of this date?

Other than everyone being on pins & needles wondering what bad luck lay ahead, what does it all mean? Who started this mass hysteria. Well depends on who you ask.

You can learn a lot about this date at this site, by How Stuff Works!

Let us eat cake!

So its March already??!! Time flies.
Someone somewhere is having a birthday!
& yet I am the one who craves a cupcake! Course I am not really in the mood to make some & its just too cold to head out to buy one. But still there are many reasons to celebrate today.

Need one? Check out the famous people who were born today & all through March.

Maybe tomorrow I will splurge & devour one in honor of Jean Harlow's birthday!

POTUS

It is Presidents Day!

Why am I so happy about this? Well because it means my history / political buff other half has the day off work! While it may also mean a day of random facts & lectures on his theories behind certain presidential terms, it means time with him. All in all I adore his zest for learning & he has inspired me to learn more.

Like did you know that "George Washington (1789-1797), Thomas Jefferson (1801-09), and John Adams (1797-1801) were all avid collectors and players of marbles." You would if you checked out today's site, Who Knew? Presidential Trivia.

POTUS, President of the United States, is a term I have learned recently along with many, many other random things. Like all Aquarian presidents have died in office, except Reagan - who was almost killed! So anyone else have any random facts about our presidents? The wackier the better!

National Bird Day!

Tomorrow is National Bird Day! A time to celebrate our fine feathered friends in all their glory, be it the ones that visit your yard or those that have joined your family.

Birds are such unique creatures that are intelligent, beautiful & have some of the biggest personalities out there. Anyone who has ever taken the time to relax & watch them can agree that they provide entertainment & insight into life.

My parents enjoy several bird feeders located all over their yard. Their favorite is the one suction cupped on to the window in their kitchen. Wild birds of all sorts make an upclose appearance daily which delights them as they do the more mundane things like wash their hands or cook lunch. Another favorite for them is the hummingbird feeder, where they can watch as the lil mini helicopter like colorful blurs sip the nectar. Finchs are another great event for them. All the various colors & the ensuing game of what type is that one can lead to hours of conversation & fun.
Bongo is affectionately known as my "Blue Bird of Happiness". He has shown me how wonderful life can be with a bird in it. While I still wish I had been able to find a budgie that needed a new home rather that the pet store purchase, I never regret bringing him home. He's love & daily antics inspire me. He makes me laugh & makes me feel so loved.
Take a moment on January 5, tomorrow to think about how amazing the birds of the world are. Spend some time outside listening to the songs, maybe celebrate by setting up a feeder of your own to help attract local birds.

Here are some pictures of birds that make me smile.
This crew can be found in Brooklyn!
Wild parrots in Brooklyn? Yup.
Learn more about these birds at Brooklyn Parrots.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

So no chance of actual snow where I am, but it got me thinking. I miss snow. Real snow.

The chill in the air the past few days has me thinking how nice it would be to see the blanket of white on the ground for the holidays.... the weather gurus say it will be in the 70s again around here starting tomorrow so again - no chance.

Course there is always the big flakes that can be made by folding paper & cutting various shapes in it, but how environmentally friendly is wasting all that paper?

So why not do it online?

You know someone had to come up with it!

So Make-A-Flake is where you can virtually make those old classic paper patterned snow flakes by using the scissors to cut out pieces. I have to admit it was a great way to spend some time & I got into it.

Here comes the sun...

HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!!

This blessed day is the shortest of the year, which means the days are going to start to get longer from here on out & the sun will bring its sweet rays to more of our days! Something that I am missing dearly around 5 pm when I am leaving work. Makes it feel more like 9 pm & that I have nothing left. I get so much more personal stuff done with more daylight, but the winter months are great to experience to so I should celebrate them for the wonder that they are.

On that note... on to today's site.

The Daily Green the consumer's guide to the green revolution

This site is jam packed with news, tips, advice & recipes for doing all you can to help live a green life style. (& if you don't know what a green life style is all about, well it is time you learned....visit the site!)
