SuperViva

Got a place to list all those new years resolutions or bucket list that get made this time of year...

SUPERVIVA.com

With a name like that, it just had to get a big font! :)

Its a useful site that lets you list all the goals you want to achieve. I listed things I want to do in 2009. It started as me going for 365 Things To Do in 2009, but I admit I wasn't able to think up 365 things that I wanted to do in 2009. I'm sure there are more things than that, but I just couldn't think of them.

Feel free to suggest any ideas or post a link to your list.

For those who are traveling...

The site today is AIRTOONS!

Ever been on a flight & actually looked at the instructions they give you? Basic visual aids to help in case on an emergency.... or as this site sees them, excellent cartoons to add captions!
Admittedly some of the cartoons are meant for adults, most are hilarious.

Boomshine

Today's site is a mellow little waste of time.

BOOMSHINE

You click on one of the colored balls, which causes it to explode & make a sound. Then any other balls that come in contact with the exploding ball, will explode. Chain reactions are used on each level to get the required number.
Sounds more chaotic than it is. I find it peaceful & relaxing. The colors & sounds can make me feel better than when I started. Great way to just calm down after a crazy day.

Don't Break the Chain

Time to start thinking about those New Year's Resolutions.

I always make a few. Sometimes even keep them. I tend to start & stop them through out the year.

One way that is suggested to keeping resolutions or starting a new habit is to track the progress visually.

Don't Break the Chain is a site that can help you do that!
Just log in each day that you are successful in keeping that daily habit or whatever & it will show you how many days you have had success on a calendar style format.

I'm hoping to use it soon for days that I have exercised.

With such a simple idea, there are a million ways this site could be used.

Any other good websites that can be used for helping to keep resolutions? I'm open to ideas. Leave me a comment. :)

Back... with a puzzle

So I got to spend a few days with the family & away from normal life.

Now I am glad to be back home, even if it means that tomorrow it will be back to work & life will begin to get a bit less magical & more practical.

Since I spent the past few days with family, its only appropriate to share a site that they shared with me a while back.

I didn't get the name at first. Its a puzzle site where you get a word & there are boxes connected to that word that are in some way associated with the word. You guess by typing in words in the boxes. Then when you guess right it will open up more connections. Seems easy enough... yet oh so addictive!

I got many phone calls from my mom trying to figure out words that would be linked! Finally I had to give up & just walk away from it for a while.

Still great way to kill a few hours..... & spend a few wondering who created this thing!!! Wondering how much longer you can work on this before you lose it & they send you to the funny farm!

Enjoy!

Seasons Greetings

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

(Why does it sound like the kids from Charlie Brown's neighborhood screaming that everytime I say it in my head? Too many holiday specials!)

Hope today is a peaceful & unique day where everyone is able to find their own personal source of comfort & joy. May all be with those who they love, if only in spirit.

& hope Santa didn't forget to bring you something wonderful!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

So no chance of actual snow where I am, but it got me thinking. I miss snow. Real snow.

The chill in the air the past few days has me thinking how nice it would be to see the blanket of white on the ground for the holidays.... the weather gurus say it will be in the 70s again around here starting tomorrow so again - no chance.

Course there is always the big flakes that can be made by folding paper & cutting various shapes in it, but how environmentally friendly is wasting all that paper?

So why not do it online?

You know someone had to come up with it!

So Make-A-Flake is where you can virtually make those old classic paper patterned snow flakes by using the scissors to cut out pieces. I have to admit it was a great way to spend some time & I got into it.

Goldie

A truly pointless waste of your time, but still amusing.

Feed the goldfish, the more you feed the bigger it gets.

I should really go watch my real fish. Luckily they don't grow as fast as this one does when fed! Course they aren't goldfish either.

This site is about as exciting as watching snow fall, yet it still captured my attention. The simple basic bliss of the nothingless I guess.

..but it is where my mind roamed while waiting on my pizza to be delivered, so there yah go!

Here comes the sun...

HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!!

This blessed day is the shortest of the year, which means the days are going to start to get longer from here on out & the sun will bring its sweet rays to more of our days! Something that I am missing dearly around 5 pm when I am leaving work. Makes it feel more like 9 pm & that I have nothing left. I get so much more personal stuff done with more daylight, but the winter months are great to experience to so I should celebrate them for the wonder that they are.

On that note... on to today's site.

The Daily Green the consumer's guide to the green revolution

This site is jam packed with news, tips, advice & recipes for doing all you can to help live a green life style. (& if you don't know what a green life style is all about, well it is time you learned....visit the site!)

Horses

There really isn't much to say about this website.

Just go here. The click on the four that you see one by one. Clicking once will start them up, clicking again with shut them up. Interesting & major time killer that entertains for some reason! It's the random things that get us through the day sometimes without being bored.

boom ba boom.

Family Watchdog

Ok so this post isn't as fun as some of the others, but I think this website is certainly noteworthy.

The site today is
FamilyWatchdog.

Its enables you to see where local registered sex offenders are in your neighborhood. Its extremely easy to use. Just type in your address (or the address of family members you are curious about their neighbor or potential neighborhoods) & it will show a coded map for everyone of note in the area.

Some of the classifications such as "offense against children", "rape", "sexual battery", & "other" are easily seen with the colored blocks showing just how close to your block these people are. Clock on any of the dots to see a photo of the offender & get more information on them or their convicted crime(s).

The first time I used this site sent chills down my spine as I recognized a few local faces. While its not meant to frighten, it is good to be aware. I am glad to say that I have watched the area around where I live go from having more dots than I liked to barely any within the few miles!

Ten Rules for Being Human

Today's site is all about motivation. I need some to help energize me & help me to remember I am worthy of getting that which I want in life. It might not mean that all my dreams come true, but that which my heart truly desires is worth searching for. My recent health scare has only confirmed a few things. I know I need change & I know I can do it. I just have to remember the truth in life. We are all constantly learning more. No one knows it all & if we seem to we are merely stuck in some rut. I found the Ten Rules for Being Human first (below), then checked out a few of the other postings at the My Success Company. Check out the free stuff section for inspiration & smiles.

Ten Rules for Being Human

by Cherie Carter-Scott

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's yours to keep for the entire period.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, "life."
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."
4. Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There's no part of life that doesn't contain its lessons. If you're alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.
6. "There" is no better a place than "here." When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."
7. Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
9. Your answers lie within you. The answers to life's questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.
10. You will forget all this.

Make Some Babies!

You know you have done it. Wondered what the children of couples would look like. Wondered what insanity would be created with the combining of those two random sets of genes. I have a couple of friends who had a child together & everytime I see it I wonder how it came out the way it did. Just is so uniquely its own person. Life amazes me that way. While this site may not be scientifically proven, its still fun. Especially if you go all nuts with the combinations that would never happen... or so we think at the moment. Never know.

So go, Make Me Babies! Up load a few pics or use the celebrity ones to see what kids might pop out in the future.

While this is what came up for Burgos & I.... I some how doubt that any kid we made would look anything like this!! What the heck? How did it come up with that from those photos?

This combination at least makes me laugh & think its more accurate since I have seen Burgos do that sign with his hand! Still interesting...

UPDATE: So I used the celebrity option & made what would be my love child with my favorite, the great Vin Diesel, well this is what I got:
So either I am dating the next best thing to Vin or something is amiss at this website!

Baby Budgies

So with the popularity of the recent puppy cam, many new animal web cams have popped up!

My favorite of the moment is this one. Its a couple of English budgies, Arthur & Crumpet, who are raising a few chicks of their own- which you can watch live. The three babies are adorable in that awkward baby bird way. It certainly will be interesting watching them grow into beautiful birds. They are almost featherless & seem all fleshy head & body at the moment. The wobble around cuddling with each other while waiting for the parents to come back & snuggle with them.

They were born on December 5th, so give them some time, as they are only 11 days old. They will soon be flopping around learning what their wings & beaks are for & I can't wait to watch!

Bobblehead Yourself!

Want to get something for the person who has everything?

Try a custom bobblehead. There really isn't any use for these other than just the pure fun factor & giving the recipient a big head. Immortalize the family portrait in a form that no one else on the clock has.

This site just cracks me up. I know someone orders these things.... just not sure who. I would be interested in seeing how many of these are ordered as a gift for someone & how many are ordered by the person themselves!

'Tis the Season to be Glowing

Every neighborhood has it.

Secretly we all enjoy viewing it.

It is only around once a year for a few weeks.

Oh yeah, its the overly enthusiastic holiday light display! You know the house I mean. The one were you can barely sleep if you live next door during the month of December due to the multicolored glow that intrudes through the windows til the wee hours. Think of the movie Deck the Halls!

If you find that sort of thing fun to view this time of year, check out the Tacky Light Tour. This website list the locations of those "must see" houses & lets you list a house in your area. It is completely dependent on viewers of the sight listing the locations to make up the list.

So pop in that Holiday Tunes Cd you save to play a few times this time of year & go see the sights!

Sounds All Arround

Ever been sitting on your computer & wish you could feel like you were outside. Realize you are missing the sounds of nature as you sit inside exploring the world on the web?

Well there is a site, FindSounds, to help you remember what nature really sounds like. Feel like listening to the cooing of doves? Ok. Wish you were in the Everglades watching alligators? Go for it.

There are other sounds than just animals as well, but what's more fun than listening to the Prairie Dog distress call?

Better yet, play a game of guess what this is with your friends?

Like can you guess this sound?

or this one?

the Lunar Bunch

With the beauty of the moon as it's fullest tonight, my mind dreams of what lies there on that big silver circle of comfort. This wonder lead me to find a group of people who are doing more than wonder, they have declared themselves citizens of the moon.

The Lunar Republic Society is focused on the future expansion of humans on the moon & mainly the relocation & tourism of humans on the moon. For just $16 you can be a member for two years.

"Included among your benefits as a member of the Lunar Republic Society are:

· Participation in elections to determine the future of Luna
· Two-year subscription to The Lunar Journal, the official newsmagazine of the Lunar Republic Society
· Participation in the international effort toward privatized exploration of the Moon
· Discounts on property purchases from The Lunar Registry
· Access to members-only sections of LunarRepublic.com
· Invitations to future members-only events
· And much more to come!"

Through the links located on the site, you can purchase lunar related merchadise - including purchasing your own acre of moon land! Also included on the site is various topics in the news from around the world that relate to the moon.

Maybe one day we will find ourselves faced with the option to move to other planets or the moon, but as for me I will hold tight to my money until then. Besides, if its a new republic wouldn't they start making their own currency? Seems a tad bit loony too me.

Loans That Change Lives

I know that many people already know of Kiva, but just in case you haven't heard of this fantastic way to help others I have to spotlight it today. Kiva is an online program where anyone can make a loan to help people across the world.

Each loan is limited to $25 but you can make as many loans as you want to. There is no interest earned but you aren't losing your money either. After the loan is paid back (rather quickly in most cases) you have the option of taking your money back or reinvesting the money into a loan for another person.

After looking through a long list of people who are looking for loans, you decide who you would like your money to go to helping. Each proflie list their name, where they are located, why they need the loan, the total loan amount they are seeking & a bit about themselves or their business's background. The hardest part for me is deciding who to loan money to. There are so many worthy recipiants!

My first loan has been completely repaid & I am looking at my second one. These are great gifts for the person who has it all & wants to help others. I have given a $25 loan certificate to a friend who sincerely appreciated it. Its like giving money, but less tacky. (Not saying that I think giving money is tacky, I welcome it, just sometimes it doesn't feel quite right.)

So check Kiva out. You will be glad you did.

Go Elf Yourself

Big thanks to Office Max for their Elf Yourself site. I did this last year & amazed my not quite computer savy parents with a clip of the whole family all elfed out & dancing around in the snow. I admit that I'm not sure why its so funny, but it does crack me up. Even did one for some friends. Which made me laugh even more. Who can't use a laugh? So go ELF YOURSELF!

I did!

Its done with the crew at JibJab which produce some hilarious clips on everything from politics to the best of the year! They have plenty of "sendables" that you can add you & your crew in at their site.

December 8, 2008 - Bike Tire Sandals

Still wondering what to give your friends & family this year.... especially since the budget is already used up? Here's an idea! Sandals....made from old bike tires.

I love anything that encourages people to reuse items that other wise would be on their way to the landfill (think about that term for a moment.... land fill. What happens when it gets FULL?).

The ecochicks at
Green Girls have made a video showing you how easy it is to make these sandals. Don't even need that much equipment. An old bike tire, chalk, pen, paper, a sandal that fits, scissors & an elastic band are all it takes.

Bike Tire Sandals How To

For those of you like me who live at the beach this is some pretty cool stuff. However since at the moment its 36 degrees, I doubt I will be making myself a pair at the moment... maybe this spring.

December 7, 2008 - Archee McPhee

Join me in a trip of random places I find myself on this glorious thing of the world wide web.

First stop a slightly odd place in Seattle that I have come to know & love. Just perfect for those hard to shop for people on your holiday list or just a mental break from th
e stress of the season!

Archie McPhee Where Pickles Yodel & Lederhosen Run Free!

What a fun place! Where else can you stock up on your very own supply of bacon flavored dental floss? Tired of your squirrels running around the neighborhood with their nuts for all to see? Get them some underpants! At only $6.50 a pair the whole neighborhood will thank you! Guarantee they have something you don't have already.... & plenty you secretly would love to receive.

They even have their own blog to check out with features on various products of the past & an ask Mr Bacon question & answer session.

Check it all out. What else are you doing?
